Archive. This is another silver Mustang
from Corgi's old mold. It may be that Corgi can't update the mold
without admitting that the original model design wasn't all it could
have been. They had the same problem with their original Spitfire
mold, with its lack of wing dihedral and simplistic landing gear.
They solved the credibility problem with that mold by creating a new
mold for the new Spitfire XIX (which is excellent). However, there
isn't any way to duplicate that workaround with the Mustang. Corgi
actually had the chance to create a new and snazzy P-51B
mold a couple years ago, but for some reason weren't able to improve
on their previous D effort.
Corgi tried to keep the manufacturing quality of this model up to
the level of the current Hornby-controlled offerings, but there are
a couple spots, one in a wheel well and another on a gear cover, where
the paint was chipped off during manufacturing. Otherwise, the paint
application is good, and is at least up to the level of the
Matchbox Mustangs. |
