D3A1 (Val) Model II, Aircraft Carrier SORYU, Ceylon, March 1942, "Lt
Commander Egusa" |
Another
of those wonderful "at last" models from SkyMax. At last,
a Val (as earlier, "At last, a Bearcat!"). The model is
done well, mostly, with excellent fuselage and wing forms, and well
applied paint. I used two figures from the Hobby Master Kate to fill
the seats. As I've noticed with two other SkyMax models, someone at
the factory has sticky fingers, because there is glue smeared on the
starboard fuselage just beneath the canopy. I don't know how to alert
SkyMax about this problem, but it is a serious quality drawback, and
could make their models less desirable, at least for me.
In the promotional pictures for this model, the green was much too
bright, even garish. Thankfully, the color on the actually model is
properly muted. I think the photographer of the promo pictures used
too much saturation. |
