F8F Bearcat, Beetle Bomb, 1949 |
Right
off, and to get the issue out of the way, the wings of the real Bearcat
had a 2 or 3 degree dihedral, and the very flat wing on this SkyMax
mold detracts quite a bit from the finished product. That said, the
rest of the model is just plain excellent. For the scale, SkyMax has
included tons of detail, mated with excellent paint and printing,
and fantastic manufacturing quality. I especially like the tight fit
of the canopy to the fuselage, something even higher-end manufacturers
too-often fail to accomplish. Again, the Hobby Master pilot was a
perfect fit.
I wasn't going to collect the models from this mold, but fell in love
with Beetle Bomb (and not just the Spike Jones version). After getting
BB, I decided to loosen up and get the first issue in the series,
which was a bit of a challenge, since they have been sold out at most
vendors (finally locating a copy at OBs). Now I'm looking forward
to the new releases. Good work, as usual, SkyMax. |
