Sky Guardians. Witty's
first entry in the P-38 camp is an okay effort, with fun colors
(or, colours for the international set), fairly good assembly, and
typical understated detail. The pilot is almost impossible to see,
and I'm still not sure he's in there. There's a seat back, and a
glob, and another glob, and a dash, and...well, you get the idea.
Witty took a different tack from Corgi, and molded the superchargers
into rectangles of plastic, and the radiator housings are separate
plastic pieces glued to the booms. The color matching for the radiators
is good, but no one bothered to paint the skinning around the supercharger,
so that the obviously plastic part comes off very unconvincing (maybe
even tacky).
Anyway, I plan to collect more of these Wittys, if for no other
reason than I like the P-38, and that the mold is generally a good
representation of the real thing. Still, the Corgi version is better
engineered, and much more sexy.
